Hello Neighbors,
Sun City Center’s open spaces, wildlife, and community character are under threat. Save SCC (Save Sun City Center, Inc.) is a resident-led grassroots, all volunteer movement working to stop high-density residential redevelopment of local golf courses and green spaces—including North Lakes, Caloosa Greens, and Sandpiper—by developers such as ClubLink and 13th Floor Homes. These courses are already in the sights and under threat by ClubLink and Kings Point’s courses will not be spared either.
To protect our community legally, we must demonstrate that Sun City Center and Kings Point stand united.
The Goal: Securing Official RNO Status
Under Hillsborough County’s Neighborhood Bill of Rights, Save SCC is registering as an official Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO). This grants our community formal legal standing before county commissioners, land-use hearing officers, regulatory boards and government entities.
To qualify for RNO certification, Hillsborough County requires signed Resident Authorizations from more than 50% of Sun City Center households (at least 3,350 out of approximately 6,700 homes) for SCC which is our initial focus because of the Notices of Intent filed by ClubLink and the SWFMD application.
The Current Count:
-
Households Authorized: 773 / 3,350 required (approx. 6,700 total)
-
Individual Residents Signed: 907 / 11,300+ total residents
Decision-makers look at data. When only a few speak, our concerns can be ignored; when thousands stand together, they cannot. Every missing authorization weakens our standing and leaves Sun City Center vulnerable. Our goal is every resident and every owner.
Why RNO Status Is Vital
Achieving certified RNO status gives our community essential legal tools:
-
Official Legal Standing: Grants Save SCC the formal right to represent residents directly in public hearings before the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, Land Use Hearing Officers, the Planning Commission, and government entities including the courts.
-
Mandatory Advance Notification: Ensures Save SCC receives formal, early notice from the county regarding any proposed rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, or variance requests.
-
Regulatory Leverage: Strengthens technical challenges before environmental and water authorities, such as the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), regarding flooding risks and stormwater basin displacement.
-
Enforcing Master Plan Protections: Provides a direct legal mechanism to enforce the Greater Sun City Center Comprehensive Plan, which designates golf course tracts as protected open space.
-
An Undeniable Mandate: Proves majority community backing, preventing developers and county officials from dismissing neighborhood opposition as a fringe interest.
