About Us

Bill Stinchcomb’s Back Yard

What is Our Mission: It is to save Sun City Center by protecting our community from residential development in areas not currently zoned as residential and to save Sandpiper Golf Course as an operating, lower-cost golfing alternative in our community.

Who we are: SaveSCC is a growing group of concerned Sun City Center Community Association members (and other interested folks) who love Sun City Center and want to protect our golf courses and green space for the enjoyment of the community. We want to keep the Sandpiper golf course as a low-cost alternative for golfers who can’t justify the cost of the Club Renaissance or Scepter Golf courses.

Why We Believe in Limiting Development:  The impact of any residential development in SCC would have a disastrous impact on our community and surrounding communities. It would diminish our quality of life, and compromise the services and opportunities rendered here by Hillsborough County, our Community Association and others. The loss of the Sandpiper Golf Course would eliminate affordable golf in our community to all those interested in that sport.

Our roads, water systems, sewer systems, EMS services, environment, etc. are already at or beyond capacity.  Yet all around us in adjoining communities, residential development continues unabated further diminishing basic and essential services. The Sun City Center Community Association facilities and clubs are already overburdened now. More demands for limited club opportunities or space would worsen matters.

The infrastructure is insufficient to support the growth. The Comprehensive Plan for Unincorporated Hillsborough County Florida for Greater Sun City Center specifically discourages “increases to densities and intensities” and calls out to “maintain and protect existing golf course(s) and ensure that they are dedicated for future recreational use only.”

What we ask:  Register as member of our organization to show your agreement and support of this cause.  There is strength in numbers.  We welcome you and your help, suggestions, ideas, input, contributions and the participation of all  SCCCA members, other concerned citizens and neighbors, our government officials and organizations, and SCC organizations (CA, HOA’s, clubs, and so on) to help in our endeavor.

What We Seek: We want to prohibit the rezoning of our golf courses now and in the future. The North Lakes Course is zoned for residential development. We will ask Hillsborough County’s assistance, as they review the developer’s plans, to ensure that the developer’s plan includes significant greenspace and limits residential density in their design.

Why – the emotional answer: The entire SCCCA community has invested their hearts, roots, time and financial resources to make this community the home and family it is.  Any major development in our midst poses a health risk to a vulnerable population. Such decisions should not be purely motivated by profits without consideration for the well being of the community, which has supported and invested so much. With each passing day we’re here, we find more kindred spirits and more joy and contentment.

Additionally, within our community of senior citizens, many of us are unable (financially or otherwise) to seek a home elsewhere. We love our homes, want to end our days here, undisturbed and want to see this community flourish for future retirees.
