Save SCC Green Spaces Status – February 21, 2025

Ellie’s Notes from Save Sun City Center – February 21, 2025

Greetings Fellow Sun City Center Residents!

Despite a short cold spell, Sun City Center’s outdoor recreationists are in full swing on the golf course, at the pool, lawn bowling, pickleball, and other favorite outdoor activities around town. There’s no holding us back, and the weather has begun cooperating, too!

All that good activity brings us to Fun Fest 2025, which will be held Saturday, March 8, where again we will have a table and be engaging with folks who are interested in preserving our golf courses and green spaces from development. I will be in our Save Sun City Center booth, and I’m looking for recruits to join me as we engage with our supporters and newcomers who may not even know about our cause.

Whether you can spare an hour, or all day, from 9:00 to 2:00 during the event, we can use your help. Carol Hugill, our volunteer coordinator, will be out of town, so this year I will be chief cook and bottle washer for the festivities. Volunteering is a great way to support the cause and talk with like-minded people. So please, if you can help, call or email me at 312-282-7337 or getinvolved@savescc.org and I’ll get you on the schedule.

On another important front, we have achieved a new milestone and designation. We have received our IRS Section 501(c)(3)designation. For donors on a going forward basis, we are qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devices, transfers, donations or gifts. So please, consider making a donation or bequest to support our work to protect our golf courses and green space by contacting me or donating at https://savescc.org/donate-to-savescc/. We will be updating our website in the future with our new IRS Section 501(c)(3).  Many thanks to our Treasurer John J. Newbury for making this happen! Kudos!

We are quickly approaching the three-year anniversary of ClubLink’s announcement on March 23, 2022, of their intent to develop golf courses in Sun City Center (see https://www.suncitycenter.org/clublink.html). But at this time, we have not seen any application for rezoning, which would be required for development on any course other than the North course, unless they try a submission under the Live Local Act. So far it has been a waiting game, but rest assured, they intend to profit from their investment, and we must be ready and vigilant!

Hope to see you March 8 at Fun Fest 2025!

P.S. – Please forward this communication to your neighbors and friends so that we can continue to keep folks informed. Thank you!
